Follow this quick checklist before your meeting starts to make sure your camera and microphone work right away.
NOTE: You do not need to have a Zoom account or be signed in!
🔎 Option 1 — Do You Have the Zoom App Installed?
❌ No — I Don’t Have the Zoom App
No problem. You can usually join from a web browser. Continue to Option 2.
✅ Yes — I have the Zoom app
Great! This is the easiest option.
👉 When you click the meeting link, it will automatically open in the Zoom app & you should be able to toggle your microphone and camera settings freely.
If you run into an issue with microphone/camera on Zoom app, check your devices system/app settings:

What Device Are You Using?

Desktop / Laptop Users
You can join directly from your browser. You'll want to check both your computer's System Settings AND you default browser's Settings

Using a MAC
Open System Settings
Select Privacy & Security

Check that your browser you are using is turned ON for both of these items:
Camera
Microphone

Using Windows 10 & 11 (PC)
- Go to Start → Settings → Privacy & Security (Windows 11) / or Settings → Privacy (Windows 10).
- Under App Permissions, click Camera. Make sure "Allow apps to access your camera" is On, and check that your browser is listed and enabled.
- Click Microphone and do the same.
- Restart your browser after making changes.
Browser Settings
Step 1 - Open the browser you normally use to open meeting links, such as:
- Google Chrome
- Microsoft Edge
- Safari (Mac users)
(These settings are inside the browser window itself — not in your computer’s main Settings.)
Step 2 - Open browser Settings
Inside your browser window on Windows PC or Mac:
- Look in the top-right corner of the browser
- Click the three dots
(⋯) or menu icon - Select Settings. A page will appear.
Step 3 - Allow Camera & Microphone
In Settings:
- Search for “Privacy” or “Site Settings”
- Find:
- Camera
- Microphone
- Make sure both are set to:
- ✅ Allow access
- ✅ Correct camera/microphone selected
You can also try the search bar & type "camera" or "microphone"
In Privacy & Security (example Google Chrome browser)
Within Site settings:
You’re ready to join from Desktop browser!
Mobile / Tablet Users
iPhone (iOS 15.1 or later)
Before your meeting:
- Open Settings
- Scroll down and find your default browser
(usually Chrome or Safari) - Tap Camera toggle→ ON
- Tap Microphone toggle→ ON
👉 This allows Zoom to use your video and audio when joining from your phone.
Android
Android devices vary by manufacturer (Samsung, Google Pixel, OnePlus, etc.), but the steps are similar.

Still Having Trouble?
Here are the most common issues and quick fixes:
"I can hear others but they can't hear me" — Your microphone may be muted in Zoom (check the microphone icon in the bottom-left of the call) or blocked at the browser/OS level. Follow the microphone steps in your section above.
"Others can hear me but can't see me" — Your camera may be turned off in Zoom (click the camera icon at the bottom-left) or blocked at the browser/OS level. Follow the camera steps in your section above.
"I get an error saying the browser doesn't support this feature" — Try switching to Google Chrome. It has the most complete support for Zoom in the browser.
"I'm prompted to sign in or create an account" — You should not need to. Look for a link that says "Join from your browser" or "Join as a guest" below the sign-in prompt.
