Booking FAQs - Working on a film set!
- What is “Call Time”? The Call Time is when you should be checked in by Production, ready for instruction at location. If you are not checked in by your call time, you are considered late & Production would then have the authority to turn you away unpaid. Be on time and use this app to communicate if you have an emergency and are running late!
- Are these Booking Details final? Booking details are always subject to changes at any moment. You will be notified via text message and/or email of any updates as soon as your casting team is informed.
- What if I don’t have the requested Wardrobe? Do your best to provide as close to the requested look as described. If you have any questions about it, we recommend asking your casting director.
- Can I take photos? Do NOT take any photos on set. Sharing spoilers or posting about your experience before the production’s release can lead to legal issues. Productions work hard to maintain secrecy, so your cooperation is appreciated.
- Can I use mobile phones or social media while on set? The use of mobile phones and social media on set is strictly forbidden. Due to the confidential nature of productions, any breach of this policy may result in immediate termination. On many productions, you will be required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA), and on high-profile sets, phones may be collected before filming commences and stored with security, this will be communicated by the CD in advance. Should you require your phone to make a call please speak to an AD on set and they will arrange a time for you to access it when you are in crowd holding.
- What is a “No Show”? Once you are sent booking info, you are booked. Failure to attend set without cancelling in advance will result in a No Show status for the booking. This holds more weight than a cancellation and may affect future booking opportunities. If you let us down more than once, you will no longer be listed for future booking opportunities with us.
- Will Production feed us? Production will provide food unless a meal allowance is provided. Your Casting Director will inform you in advance if a meal allowance is available, subject to HMRC guidelines. In this instance, if there are adequate shops in the local area you will be given time in order to purchase and eat your food. Please ensure you have eaten before arriving on set, as breakfast may not be provided and will be dependent on your call time and the time breakfast is available till. It may also be advised to arrive before your call time, should you wish to eat breakfast.
- What is “Camera Ready”? Unless you are working on a show that is set in a past/future time period, you need to always arrive to set with your hair & makeup ready for camera. Do not expect Production to do your hair and makeup for you unless it is otherwise specified in your booking details.
- Are my tattoos a problem? If you have tattoos, it is best that you have personally obtained a form of written Tattoo Clearance signed by your tattoo artist. Many Productions and roles want to avoid tattoos unless the role is specifically enhanced by that appearance trait. If tattoos are not part of the discussion during the booking process, assume Production will require you to cover them up. If you are not able to cover with scene-appropriate wardrobe items, you can cover them with makeup, but be sure that is done before arriving to set.
- Bringing Personal Items to set: Be cautious about bringing personal items to set. Production will have a holding area for all SAs and your items, but please understand neither Production, nor Casting, are liable for your possessions. You should consider only bringing what is necessary for you to get through the day.
-
- Please always be prepared for yourself and your needs. This is especially true when preparing for the weather including sunscreen, sunglasses, extra layers or clothes for your comfort when in SA Holding, etc... If you are facing unreasonable accommodations (such as lack of water), please speak to an AD on set. Please also contact your Casting team asap and we can raise this with the production. Your safety and welfare on set is important to us.
- Medication needs: If you require medication, either regularly or for emergencies, please inform a member of the assistant director team upon arrival. If your costume prevents you from carrying medication, the ADs will arrange for secure storage or entrust it to the on-set medic.
-
- If Production is asking you to do additional work on set (speaking, special action, dance, photo double, stand-in, nudity, etc...) which is not expected of standard supporting artist role, you should confirm with your casting director whether you are entitled for extra pay before agreeing, so we can help ensure you get the proper amount owed!
- Wrapping up your day on set: Please do not leave the set until an Assistant Director officially releases you for the day. Before leaving, sign out with an AD and return all props and costumes in the same condition you received them. You are responsible for any loss or damage.
